        Another week for English our topic is all about "Sensory Imagery" sadly before our discussion our teacher didn't give a spelling quiz but its fine cuz we still have Anglo American-Literature Icon which is "Robert Browning"

The Anglo American-Literature : "Robert Browning" 1812-1889


        -Was an English poet and playwright whose dramatic monologues put him high among the Victorian poets. His verse was noted for irony, characterization, dark humor, social commentary, historical settings and challenging vocabulary and syntax.


Notable Works: The Pied Piper of Hamelin, Men and Women, The Ring and the Book, Dramatis Personae, Dramatic Lyrics, Dramatic  Romances and Lyrics, Asolando

SENSORY IMAGERY 

        -is a literary device writers employ to engage a reader’s mind on multiple levels. It is the representation of language through sense of experience using the five human senses: sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell. It helps writers to create images in the mind of the reader.

– symbolism 
– representation
                                                   – mental images

Visual imagery 

        – appeals to the sense of sight and describes what we see: comic book images, paintings, or images directly experienced through the narrator’s eyes. Visual imagery.

Example: The lush green grass formed a living frame for single white blossom.



Auditory imagery 

        – appeals to the sense of hearing and describes it, from music to noise to pure silence. Auditory imagery may include:


Example: The crashing and banging coming from the kitchen alerted me to the intruder’s presence.






Tactile imagery

     – appeals to the sense of touch and describes what we feel. Tactile imagery includes: Temperature, such as bitter cold, humidity, mildness, and stifling heat.

Example: The rough, grainy surface abraded my skin.




Olfactory imagery 

        – appeals to the sense of smell and describes it. Olfactory imagery

Example: The spicy aroma of garlic and sautéed onions encircled me when I stepped into the room.






Gustatory Imagery 

        – appeals to the sense of taste and describes it. Gustatory imagery can include: Sweetness, such as candies, cookies, and desserts. Sourness, bitterness, and tartness, such as lemons and limes.


Example: The sweet, tangy flavor of the orange candy swirled through me.
